Hyderabad: A teenager played online games using his mother and grandfather’s money without their knowledge and lost Rs. 36 lakhs over a period of time.

The teenager, a resident of Amberpet in the city, had downloaded a free shooting game app to his grandfather’s cell phone a few months ago. Since he had access to his mother’s online bank account credentials, the boy initially used small amounts to play the game.

However, without knowing his mother or grandfather, he started gambling regularly and spent Rs. 36 lakh on online games.

The family learned of his activities after discovering a huge sum deducted from their bank accounts. The boy had withdrawn around Rs. 27 lakh from his mother’s bank account and another Rs. 9 lakh from his grandfather’s account.

The woman approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police and filed a complaint. “We are writing to the company to inform them of the complaint lodged by the family and will see what can be done in the matter,” said a cybercrime official from Hyderabad.
